Job searching doesn't mean begging

Don’t let companies make this more humiliating
This week on the Corporate Pizza Party Podcast we addressed layoffs both from the perspective of our own layoffs we have gone through, as well as from the side of having organized them in the past. We touch on personal stories and give some actionable advice. Check out the episode on Apple or Spotify
Job Searching is Humiliating, don’t let them make it worse
The Illusion of the "Dream Company"
We've all been there—scrolling through the careers page of that tech giant or coveted corporation, dreaming of the day we land a spot on their team. It's easy to get swept up in the allure of being associated with a brand that's considered a "dream company." But here's the truth: no company is a one-size-fits-all dream. What looks dreamy from the outside might not align with your values, work style, or long-term goals.
People leave their “dream company” everyday. It’s not your dream job, it’s just a job that looks the most appealing right now.
Companies treat top candidates like top candidates
You are a valuable professional bringing skills, expertise, and a unique perspective to the table. A company that recognizes that will pursue you with the same enthusiasm you're extending to them.
Companies do not make their top candidates email them every few days for updates, promise them deadlines and never meet them or make them sit in silence. The more we remember this the easier it can be to keep moving forward and saving our energy.
Stop constantly asking for updates, stop following up every few days, stop begging them for attention they are purposely not giving you.
When the company shows you how they feel about you…pay attention.
Know Your Non-Negotiables
Sure, a company might have a killer benefits package or a fancy office space, but are those the things that truly matter to you? It's essential to identify your non-negotiables. What values do you prioritize? What work environment brings out the best in you? Your job search is not just about impressing employers; it's about finding the right fit for you.
In some cases, yes you just need a job and will take whatever. But if your goal is to also avoid being on this market again for a while, it is important to be willing to stand behind what matters…if you can!
Easier Said Than Done
I know this comes from a place of “easier said than done”
Some people do not have the luxury to not chase or not beg, but I would also ask this difficult question of you:
How has begging been going so far on this search?
I often hear from people about how something wont work, or they have to do it the other way because it increases their chances…but they still are not landing jobs. In a market like this, where failure is happening more than ever, is it not worth even considering changing the mindset around this?
I continue to keep my coaching rates below most career coaches with far less experience in an effort to be as accessible as possible.
We can meet for 30 or 60 minutes to go over any part of your job search including resume review or job interview prep.
I keep limited hours available as I prefer to continue to provide as much free content as possible, but for those who would like individual help and time the option is available.
I hope you have been enjoying the podcast. It is also my goal to get back to sending 2-3 newsletters a month now that the heavy lifting on this project is over.
I’d love to hear from you about what you’d like me to talk about here or on the pod, and of course always invite you to follow me on all socials linked below. (The Youtube link is still broken. A goal for next year is to also be more consistent about uploading longer content there)!
